Oil on canvas mounted to hardboard, 13 x 21, $350
This view of Baker Creek at Ed Renfrew Park first drew me in because of the way the trees seemed to tangle together, framing the quiet water below. At first, I painted it larger on canvas, but the composition felt adrift, with too much open foreground. Cropping and mounting it on hardboard revealed the tension and balance I had been searching for.
The title Entanglement carries a second meaning for me. Beyond the visual knots of branches, it recalls my years studying quantum mechanics, where “entanglement” describes particles that remain mysteriously connected across space. Here, in paint, I found a parallel: nature’s own entanglement, visible and immediate, yet carrying its own quiet mystery.
It also happens to be one of my wife’s favorites.
