Miller Woods Pond

Oil on canvas on hardboard, 16×20, Sold

This was the first in a series of paintings of the pond near the entrance to Miller Woods, a favorite hiking spot for locals. The stillness of the scene is punctuated by the soft reflections of the sky and a solitary dock, barely visible except in the water. The hazy atmosphere and muted palette create a sense of quiet, and the foreground reeds add an edge of texture and mystery.

Personal Note: I’ve returned to this spot and painted it many times, but this first version still holds a special place for me. It captures something ephemeral — a feeling more than a view — and I’m glad someone else saw that too. This painting sold quickly, but I made a run of greeting cards featuring it, and they’ve been quite popular during studio tours.
